2010: Review Task Force Findings on Guantánamo

The task force created by Obama's January 2009 executive order releases its findings to the public on May 28, 2010. The review evaluates the condition and files of 240 detainees. The task force finds that 126 of the detainees can be transferred to their home country or any country willing to take them. 30 additional Yemeni detainees are cleared for transfer when the security climate in Yemen improves. 36 others are to be prosecuted by federal courts or military commissions. And finally, 48 detainees are to be held indefinitely, just not at Guantánamo. By this time, the federal government begins looking for a domestic prison to hold the Guantánamo detainees.
