2009: Missing the Deadline

In November of 2009, President Obama admits that the U.S. government would miss the deadline he had set for the closure of the Guantánamo detention facilities. This is due to many of the files on the detainees being in disarray and scattered between several agencies and governmental bodies. In addition, the process turns out to be difficult and convoluted due to technical details that were previously unforeseen.

President Obama does not give another deadline date, but assures the public that progress is being made and the day would come soon.
