1996: Chinese Migrants Held

Guantánamo's detention facilities reopen. Under Operation Marathon, an anti-smuggling initiative in 1996, Guantanamo detention facilities are used to house an estimated 120 Chinese migrants who have attempted to illegally migrate to the United States by sea.
