1964: Cuba Shuts Off Fresh Water Source for Guantanamo

Cuba shuts off water sources for Guantánamo. Taking the bait from Castro, the U.S. Coast Guard seizes four Cuban fishing vessels near Florida waters and detains all crew except for seven teenagers. Four days later in a political statement of protest, Fidel Castro shuts off the water line connecting to the base from the Yateras River. He says he will allow water to flow for one hour per day to provide for women and children.
